Spring!! Oh spring...!!!

Sekarang dah spring.. Spring!! Spring!!! Tapi suhu tak ler panas pun.. Hari ni mendungm suhu 8 deg C.. Semalam pun lebih kurang jer.. Minggu lepas pun dah spring, suhu macam tu ler jugak.. Aku pun, macam tu ler jugak.. Berbungkus setiap kali nak klua.. Hehe..
Minggu ni agak kurang produktif.. Kerja masih tak habis but, at least not for another 2 years and 10 months.. Hey.. Ok ler tu.. Now, have to read a lot more.. More and more technical stuff have to understand.. More on EstimateS, need to explore before planning for the next sampling.. That will be done in August-September this year! Yahoo.. Cari ikan.. Hehe.. I love being on the field..
This week, I got several interesting emails.. I got email (and reply!) from Dr. Hamid on Tomistoma project in Setiu, from collegues at UMT on Sime-Darby biodiversity inventory, pasal FYP student/PITA project, from Dr. Hii on Kenyir environmental baseline survey, from Dr. Isa Ipor, and from Yg Bhg Dato' Prof A. Latiff Mohammed.
The most interesting is from Dr. Hamid lah.. It seems like project on False Gharial in Setiu is about to come alive, and kicking. Dr. Shahrul email me yesterday, saying that it might take off in June.. Well, that's something. My contribution might be small, but I'm interested to study the fish fauna that probably a major part of diet of the False Gharial. However, this might not be happening soon because I have another important things to do. But, I'll keep that in mind..
On Sime-Darby intention to identify 'biodiversity importance' in their plantation is one interesting topic to discuss. Previously, I was involved with GEF on the work at Meliau, Sabah with TSH Plantation, which interested to 'develope' ecotourism potential in their area. Then, Prof. Datin Ann Anton invited me to assist her on fisheries aspects of an oxbow lake in Sandakan areas as well under the management of IJM. It's very interesting when people becoming more interesting and open their eyes on the biodiversity in 'agroecosystem'! More interesting is the fact that, the 'plantation' owner are interested to know what is their 'land' has and in Sime-Darby case, they really would like to know something that is 'close to heart' for environmentalists and every one as well.. I don't think there will be many interesting finding that are considered 'endemic' or 'rare' or 'endangered' but there is certainly something.. For example, an aquatic plant such as Cryptocoryne has been reported growing well in small streams in oil palm plantations and certain species is probably found nowhere else in the world. I hope others will follow what Sime-Darby is trying to do in their land.. Semoga berjaya.. Kudos to Sime-Darby!!
